Why Submit? I Married a Fool!
by Roline Thomas

1 Samuel 25:3 - Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of
good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of
the house of Caleb

If you read the story of Nabal and Abigal found in 1 Samuel 25, you will discover Abigal honoring her husband who
was indeed a fool. The name Nabel means
“fool, senseless”. Nabel literally lived up to his name. The Bible describes
Abigal as being intelligent and beautiful- inside out. Here, we have a good woman married to a bad man--a fool!

Abigal had a good understanding of her role as a wife. Regardless of how foolish her husband was, and how much
she didn’t like what her husband was doing, she submitted to and respected her husband. God deals with Abigal’s
husband because she “got out of the way” and allowed God to be in control.

If you are married to a fool, don’t argue with, pout over, manipulate, nag or usurp the authority of your husband…get
out of the way. Let God deal with his stubbornness. If you don’t get out of the way you will find yourself standing in
the way!

Your husband can be won by your behavior:
1 Peter 3:1 (NIV)- Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the
word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives.

Get out of the way and allow your husband to function in his role---headship---God will honor and bless you for your
obedience. Abigal means “the joy of the father”. Imagine how proud the Father will be when we submit to our

God can deal with your husband, but you must get out of the way! The way you get out of the way is through your
obedience to God’s Word--- submit, respect, honor your own husband, regardless of his foolishness.
